Overview:
Fuelling the India growth story has raised serious concerns vis-à-vis the depletion of Coal, the conventional energy resource and the simultaneous global warming and greenhouse effect. Adhering to the norms of the Kyoto Convention, India has turned to tap the clean, green power. All this heralds an era of renewable sources of energy. It throws open the floodgates for a barrage of investment opportunities to pour in. Tapping the renewable source of energy for a sustained economic growth is inevitable and so is the involvement of Private Equity players in this space. The Indian Solar Energy sector has received a shot in the arm as Moser Baer has recently raised US$ 100 million from a consortium of investors led by IDFC Private Equity. Reliance Energy has joined Chicago Climate Exchange as an aggregator for the group's offset projects. Private Equity stalwarts like Bessemer Venture Partners and Warburg Pincus India are maneuvering investments into the clean energy sector. UTI Venture Funds Management, too, has forayed into the energy sector. Tapping newer energy resources could be the next gold rush.
This conclave aims at exploring the opportunities and issues embedded within this space. |
